Repères biographiquesShort Biography

Ekhine Irurozki received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of the Basque Country, Spain, in 2014. Before joining Télécom Paris, she was a postdoc fellow at the Machine Learning Department at the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM) in Bilbao from 2017 to 2020. She previously worked from 2015 to 2017 as Postdoctoral Fellow at the Basque Country University.

Her main research interest is the development of optimization and artificial intelligence techniques for automatic decision making, with a particular interest in statistical problems with ranked data.

She has led the cybersecurity lab and has been part of the transfer unit at BCAM, having worked in several projects with companies in the manufacturing and services sectors. She received the Extraordinary Doctoral Award from the Basque Country University.

Research activities

  • Probabilistic models and learning over permutations: development of algorithms for learning, sampling, and inference on probability distributions over rankings, as well as statistical depth functions and robust median estimation. Applications include ranking-based benchmarking of NLP systems through median-of-rankings aggregation.
  • Combinatorial optimization:probabilistic approaches to optimization over permutation spaces, with applications to problems such as the Travelling Salesman Problem (TSP) and the Quadratic Assignment Problem (QAP).
  • Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS): analysis of fiber-optic sensing data for event localization and ground-condition identification, with applications to geophysical monitoring and infrastructure condition monitoring.
