Dr. You (Neil) Zhang is an Assistant Professor at Télécom Paris, in the ADASP group of the LTCI laboratory. Before joining Télécom Paris, he was a Senior Researcher on Spatial Audio and Multimodal AI at Dolby Laboratories. He received his Ph.D. from the Audio Information Research Lab at the University of Rochester, USA, where he worked with Prof. Zhiyao Duan. He also holds an M.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Rochester (2021) and a B.E. in automation from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (2019).
His research focuses on applied machine learning for speech and audio, with the long term goal of building human-centric multimodal AI systems that understand, generate, and adapt audio in ways that are both immersive and trustworthy. His work spans synthetic voice detection, spatial audio and HRTF modeling, and audio-visual analysis, with contributions at ICASSP, WASPAA, Interspeech, IEEE SPL, and IEEE TMM. His honors include the Rising Star Program in Signal Processing at ICASSP 2023, the Graduate Research Fellowship Program of the U.S. National Institute of Justice, the IEEE Signal Processing Society Scholarship, and the Best Student Paper Award at IEEE WASPAA 2025.
