First IP Paris’ International Winter School on Microarchitectural Security: the launch of a sustainable training initiative

equipe Labsoc vignette
The first Winter School on Microarchitectural security will be held in December 2022, organized by Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris). Maria Mushtaq and Ulrich Kühne, researchers at Télécom Paris and organizers of the event, explain the importance of this gathering, which aims to bring together international researchers of all levels around a complex and trans-disciplinary emerging subject.

Microarchitectural security is a hot topic that has emerged in a few years as a completely new research area. In Télécom Paris, many researchers are conducting work in this area, which involves a wide variety of disciplines, such as hardware and software security or computer architecture. Maria Mushtaq and Ulrich Kühne, from the Secure and Safe Hardware (SSH) team , affiliated to the LTCI lab, are among those. Both Associate professors are behind the creation of the first Winter School on Microarchitectural Security (Mic-Sec) that will occur in December 2022 in Paris, under the flagship of IP Paris.

Meeting other researchers from all around the world is very important in such a new research area, explain the two organisers. Unfortunately, many events have been canceled during the last years due to the pandemic, and traveling was difficult or even impossible. We thought that now is the right time to bring people together in Paris for spreading awareness of this cause”.
