YAGO software awarded by the Committee for Open Science

Fabian Suchanek, Professor at Télécom Paris, has been awarded the 2022 Prize for Open Science in Research Data for his software YAGO.

For the first year, the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research is awarding Prize for Open Science in Research Data to projects, teams and young researchers engaged in exemplary practices in the management, dissemination and reuse of research data.

Led by Fabian Suchanek, the « YAGO – knowledge base » project is one of the three winners in the « Special Jury Mention » category, which recognizes exemplary ideas and projects in terms of data openness and sharing.

Resulting from 15 years of collaboration between two institutions, the Max Planck Institute for Informatics (Saarbrücken, Germany) and Télécom Paris, YAGO is now a reference on the Semantic Web. Using both resources Wikidata and schema.org it has built up a knowledge base that is used to feed numerous tools, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence. Since its beginnings in 2007, the YAGO knowledge base has been made available for free: the source code of the base can be found on the GitHub platform, under the GNU GPL v3 open source license which guarantees everyone the right to use, study, modify and share the protected program code.
