ICE seminar: « Experimental quantum optics for quantum information technologies »
Abstract
Photons, as flying carriers of information, are involved in all quantum technologies due to their low interaction with the environment, little to no cryogenic requirements, and the potential of fibered and free-space hardware and networks.
In this talk, I will present my former work in atomic physics and quantum optics to discuss ideas in three areas of photonic quantum technologies: Free space quantum communications, continuous variable quantum information processing and frequency bin encoding for quantum information processing.

Juan Rafael Alvarez is a researcher in quantum mechanics and the processing of quantum information by light, working as an assistant professor in Telecom Paris since January 2025. He has followed an international academic career between France, the UK, Spain and his native Colombia. He obtained his PhD in experimental physics from Oxford University in March 2023, in the Atom-Photon Connection group, before completing a post-doctorate at the Université Paris-Saclay.
