Abstract

Digital transformation is reshaping the automotive industry and positioning data as a central strategic resource. Although its economic potential is acknowledged, connected vehicle data remains underexploited and rarely converted into viable monetization models. This dissertation examines the conditions under which an established automotive manufacturer can turn such data into strategic assets. Conducted within Renault Group, the research adopts an action-research approach that combines empirical investigation with conceptual frameworks drawn from ecosystem theory, business model innovation, and value co-creation perspectives. The dissertation is structured around five scientific articles. The first maps the connected vehicle data ecosystem; the second identifies organizational, regulatory, and technical barriers; the third develops a strategic framework to integrate monetization into digital transformation; the fourth elaborates a taxonomy of business models adapted to the automotive sector; and the fifth introduces a scoring tool for evaluating and prioritizing data assets.
